NZi3 – National ICT Innovation Institute has Arrived!

Greetings,

Just recently, New Zealand has established its first dedicated ICT research centre in the city of Christchurch; this is seen as an unparalled opportunity for ICT companies to enhance their high tech capabilities through access to top notch New Zealand based facilities. The national ICT Innovation Institute  is located on campus at the University of Canterbury. The ICT Innovation Institute wishes to create long term strategic partnerships with both national and global ICT companies to further research opportunities while ensuring a steady stream of world class ICT graduates.

The vision of NZi3 is to be a ‘hothouse’ of ICT research and innovation, an icon for the ICT industry in New Zealand.

A place where …

  • students and staff cross-fertilise ideas and technologies between disciplines and departments.
  • industry experts and academia work hand in hand on industry-led projects.
  • entrepreneurial thinking is fostered and developed.
  • innovative solutions emerge at margins of traditional research areas.
  • new concepts with commercial potential are developed.

The Institute’s primary output will be excellent research graduates, nurtured within an environment that fosters innovation and inventions, provides access to world-class knowledge and resources and facilitates the integration of commercial and academic research.

The NZi3 is a testament to how far New Zealand has come with the development of the ICT sector.  The dedication to innovation, collaboration, rigorous R&D blueprinting for the future and strategic partnerships with the likes of IBM, HP and Jade will not only strengthen the economy but position the region to be one of the world’s most respected ICT sectors.
